HULSEY LAW GROUP SPONSORS YO ART EXHIBITION

On Sunday, April 6, 2008, Hulsey Law Group sponsored an exhibition by school children participating in the Yo Art after-school project for minority students.

The Yo Art Project was founded by Gene Furchgott in order to teach kids computer and writing skills to better enable them to handle both their academic studies and life’s challenges. The emphasis is on one-to-one mentoring that helps the boys and girls to see and understand the unlimited opportunities that are available beyond the bounds of their local neighborhoods and establish goals that they can strive to achieve.

The exhibition included original art, photographs and individual performances by the children of original poems and other forms of the spoken word.  Those attending were treated to a presentation by Sophia Feaster of the Gullah Spoken Word as well as musical entertainment by the Edmund Thornton Jenkins Chamber Society.
Hulsey Law Group partner Cherie Durand, who was responsible for organizing the event, said, “It was incredibly rewarding to see how much the children and their families enjoyed the event. If our efforts were successful in inspiring just one more child to participate in the program, it was well worth it.”

The children’s art was for sale and all the proceeds were donated to Yo Art Program. Hulsey Law Group annually supports local projects directed towards providing educational opportunities for the poor and disadvantaged of the Lowcountry. Paul Hulsey reminded the standing-room only crowd:  “The Reverend Martin Luther King once said ‘Justice is not spelled Just Us.’”

Supporting the poor, hungry and underprivileged of the Lowcountry remains an important part of Hulsey Law Group’s mission statement.
